I have edited documents ranging from high school research papers to high-priority presentations for large companies.  I am most comfortable with Chicago style.  However, I am also familiar with Associated Press style.  I can use either style to edit any document.

Submission Instructions

If you would like me to edit a document for you or for your company, please email me with the following information:

1. Identity
I need to know your name (and your company's name), as well as contact information (email address, snail mail address, and telephone number).

2. Explanation
I'll also need a brief explanation of the document (i.e. its purpose, its audience, etc.).

3. What/How to Fix
If you just want me to fix grammar mistakes, tell me.  If you want me to fix grammar mistakes, voice problems, tense problems, punctuation errors, and so forth, I need to know.  Be specific.  And be sure to include what style you want me to use (AP, Chicago, APA, MLA, etc.).  Also, tell me if you want me to mark the changes I make in the document.  If you don't want me to mark changes, I will make corrections directly in the document.

4. Length
I need to know how many pages the document has (this may affect the rate).

5. Deadline
Let me know when you need the document back (this may affect the rate).

The email for submitting editing requests is editing@thehiddenhaven.net.

The Editing Process

The First Step
Once you initiate contact, I will take all the information you provide me with, and I will edit your document according to the guidelines you give me (i.e. style, type of corrections, etc.).  I will send the document back to you within a week (with exception of rush jobs and documents longer than 50 pages).  I will also send an invoice for payment.  Ideally, this should be the end of the process.

The Second Step
However, if you feel the document needs to be edited again for the same corrections, return the document to me, and I will edit it again (the second editing rate is half-price).  Once I am finished editing the document a second time, I will return it to you as soon as possible.  I will include another invoice for payment.

The Third Step
If I need to edit the document a third time for the same corrections, I will refund whatever money has been paid to me, and the entire assignment will be free, no matter what the length of the document.

My Rates

My base rate is $35 per hour.  If editing the whole document takes me less than an hour, the total price will be $35 (this price is negotiable depending on difficulty of the material, the amount of corrections requires, and the type and length of the document).

I try to return all documents within a week of receiving them.  If a document is more than 50 pages, please allow more than a week.  If the document is greater than 50 pages and is needed in a week or less, the rate increases to $50 per hour.

However, I am willing to discuss pricing options on any commission.

I will not begin editing any document until payment has been processed through PayPal.

Helpful Hints for Submissions

Know what you want.
I can't know how to edit your work, if you don't know what you're trying to communicate.

Know what you need.
If you're not very good at punctuation, be aware of it.  If you're not good at spelling or capitalization, be aware of it.  The more you can tell me about your writing style, the faster I can complete the commission.

Know when you need it.
Deadlines are helpful (but not necessary).  If you don't need the document by a certain time, make sure to tell me.  If you have to have it right away, tell me.  Communication is key.
